BRt was part of the recovery plan of the biggest freight railway network in Argentina.
In December 2005, after Belgrano Freight Line was declared in state of emergency the Project Emergency Operative Company (SOE) was started. Between 2006 and 2011 BRt was called to be part of SOE in order to carry out this investment and development project in different branches of the Line.
Belgrano Cargas Line is the most extensive in the country and has a very important role in the economy of 13 provinces where it travels through. The net covers several zones with high productive development potential and also enables ascending traffic of goods for regional economies. Recovering the net also allowed to reconnect the commercial path to Chile through Socompa border crossing.
Work has been carried out in order to renew and refurbish rolling stock, tracks and infrastructure overall, increasing in this manner the availability of freight transported.
Improvements in working conditions have also been implemented, in health and safety, uniforms, equipment and in the state of working stations. Moreover important works of restoration in sections of the net which were deteriorated due to climate factors have been performed.
